Houston Honey with M/Sgt Edward F Zurawski
This is a photo of the plane Houston Honey. It was one of the planes
that were based out of Saipan during WWII in the pacific theater. My
grandfather was with the 73 wing, 498 group, 875 squadron in the AAF.
Ed Zurawski who was the crew chief for Houston Honey, told me that it was
named by "Major Lupear who was from Houston" and that "It flew over 35
missions over Japan and I sent it home when they declared it 'war weary'.
We had damage from enemy fire but no casualties." Further "On one mission
a propeller feathering oil line was damaged by flack and the propeller
could not be feathered. Eventually the prop separated from the prop shaft
and damaged the fuselage."
Houston Honey was marked as T-51 according to Ed, and was with the 875th.
